Screenprint, Acrylic, Aluminum, Aluminum Composite Material (ACM), 6”- 24” diameter, 2022
Overseeing the laser cut performance for a large sculptural project allowed me to spend time at the sign factory and closely examine the unused material and waste. The thought of discarded raw materials made me redesign my original cutting plans, adding various size circles between the shapes. I cut several small-slotted aluminum interconnected disks and later printed them with a black or white background. Each display scrambled letters screenprinted in the opposite color. In this work, the Bill of Rights reappears, once more deconstructed, now in the three-dimensional space.
The newsprint paper I used during my printing sessions was pasted on a movable gallery wall, creating a background for a vitrine where I installed the larger pieces.
Fragmented, improvised, and unbalanced, these fragmented words of wisdom try to reconnect and somehow make sense in space. The original message no longer makes sense on paper.
